ATHENS – University of Georgia President Michael Adams will have to start the process of selecting a new athletic director in he coming days. What is next for Georgia?

Damon Evans' embarrassing arrest cost him his job, but now Adams will have to replace his go-to guy for the last six years.

Adams will have to have someone run the athletic department. Former Georgia Athletic Director Vince Dooley is available, but that is less likely than any other scenario. Actually it is almost impossible to imagine.

Adams will likely move Frank Crumley, who is the Executive Associate Athletic Director for Finance & Business, as interim or acting AD for the meantime.

Adams will have to go through a national search to find the next AD and that could take some time. Georgia could go a year without a new AD, but it seems hard to think a new person wouldn't be starting the new job by July 1, 2011.

Crumley, and two other men have already been spotlighted as candidates for the job: Greg McGarity, the Executive Senior Associate Director at Florida, and Alabama Executive Director of Athletics Dave Hart.

But insiders say Adams will be careful not to select an AD who would be difficult to control. That may mean Adams takes the person he feels most comfortable with already or someone he feels like he won't get any pushback from.

Insiders also say that Adams could be getting attacked by influential Georgia boosters like Billy Payne, who have not been supportive of him, but it seems very unlikely Adams is in any jeopardy of losing his job here.
