Brent Benedict Chat Recap

Brent Benedict Chat Recap

Georgia signee Brent Benedict chatted with Dawg Post members - catch the recap here.

Brent Benedict: I am 6-5, 310. I played at 290. I have been lifting and rehabbing. I was at 270, but I am at 310 now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

bhdawg: How's the leg doing today
Brent Benedict: I have been told 12 to 18 months before, but Dr. Andrews said 6 to 9 months, and I am four months in. He has cleared me to do shot put and discus, That was not expected. So that is a good thing
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UGAGirl98: has Brent decided on a major yet
Brent Benedict: Brent is planning on doing business at Terry. Probably business marketing. That is what I have interest in. That's what my dad did. I am familiar with that. I have spoken with Shaun Chapas. I went to a class with him for marketing. I got a taste for it. Terry is one of the top programs in the country
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brent Benedict: On Football movements - my knee is good enough shape to do the shot put and discus. My guess is that Dr. Andrews will clear me for contact in a month or two without any nerve issues. The nerve has returned at a slow rate. It is repairing, and it is a process. I am getting feeling in spots I didn't previously in.. motion, too
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UGAGirl98: when will he be arriving on campus?
Brent Benedict: Brent will get to Georgia in June
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

wiseromulus: So besides Chapas who would you say player wise has been the biggest help to you so far in getting ready?
Brent Benedict: I have talked with Kolton a lot. I roomed with him at the Under Armor Game. Our families have gotten close. Also Clint Boling, Austin Long and Ben Jones .We have talked about everything about being a Georgia football player. I have asked them questions and they been helpful with the answers
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

bhdawg: so there is no problem with being ready to practice come August
Brent Benedict: Brent "should be ok" the way he is healing now. At first it was supposed to be 12 to 18 months. I have seen guys who have taken two years. From a medical standpoint we are going to have to see what they let me do. It is not out of the question to practice or play, but there is no guarantee, but it is healing quicker than I thought
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UGAGirl98: does Brent know who he's rooming with yet?
Brent Benedict: On rooming together. I think I am rooming with Hutson, Kolton and Michael Bennett if we can get a quad
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aldog: It looks like Georgia is really in solid with the kids at Bolles. what is the reason for this?
Brent Benedict: On Bolles... I think the Bolles guys have been successful coming out. I mean it is a college prep school. Academically, athletically and socially it prepares you for college. I think Bolles guys do better, and coaches see that and continue to go back there. We have guys who work hard and are coached hard
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

urt08: Brent, what do you enjoy doing outside of football?
Brent Benedict: Outside of football... I like going to the beach, hunting and fishing. We have land in South Carolina not too far from Athens. We hunt deer and turkey there.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UGAGirl98: Is he ready for the intensity level of Coach Searels?
Brent Benedict: I have an offensive line coach similar to Coach Searles. He has produced guys who have gone on to college and the NFL. They are both verbal and in your face. I am excited about it. He was a big reason I picked Georgia. I hope I am ready.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Younkdawg: What does he feel his strengths are? and Does he see himself as a Tackle or a Guard?
Brent Benedict: Brett played OT his senior and junior year. He played guard before that. I worked on my pass protection, but I was solid at the run game. I have worked pretty hard at pass protection pretty hard. So hard that I think I am pretty balanced now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

urt08: what has Searles told you is an area where you need to strengthen the most (could be b/f the knee issue) since that's the obvious priority.
Brent Benedict: He likes my aggressiveness, which is a part of the run game. He would like me to work on the speed of the game. Everything is so much faster. Working on hand placement and the little things you need to do well in college ball.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

bhdawg: on your last timing before the injury, what was your best time
Brent Benedict: Bennedict ran a 5.07 while weighting 270. But he has run a sub 5.0 at some point in high school
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UGAGirl98: is there a particular school in the SEC that Brent is looking forward to going against
Brent Benedict: In the SEC there are so many rivalries. There are no off weeks. Florida bing in Florida, and begin in Jacksonville... I am looking forward to that one. But I am from South Carolina, and I am looking forward to playing them and Clemson. I have ex-temmates at Arkansas and Vandy, too. I am excited
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aldog: There were a couple of Bolles players at jr day and the CES combine this year. both good looking prospects. will you be helping guide them to Athens?
Brent Benedict: On the Theus brothers... they come from a great family. They are going to be great football players. I know they are young and have made no connections. I am not going to do anything illegal, but I will answer their questions. I told them the reason why I went there…
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

bhdawg: What was the number 1 reason u picked Georgia over the other schools
Brent Benedict: That's hard to say. When my brother was getting ready for the NFL the agent he had had very strong opinions of the offensive line coaches. His favorite guy at the time was the coach at LSU. I already liked Georgia, and when I visited up there I walked in and Coach Searles had been there a week... and that really helped Georgia. When my brother was being recruiting there were a few programs they liked. But that was Coach Richt's first year. But I was able to compare apples to apples with Shaun - that helped me a lot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FedorDawg: what about what number he will wear?
Brent Benedict: I was 76 in HS; I was 74 in 8th grade, and that was my brother's number... it is no big deal for me. 76 would be fine with me...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FedorDawg: did anyone ask him how often he works out?
Brent Benedict: I am working with a personal trainer three to five times a week... I have the book with the workout, and I am doing all of that...
