Ole Miss Week: Tuesday News and Notes

ATHENS - Josh Kendall's news and notes from Georgia's fall practices.

TAILBACK UPDATE: Kregg Lumpkin is not ready to get back in the tailback rotation yet, and Thomas Brown isn't in any danger of losing his spot on top of that rotation, Richt said Tuesday.

Lumpkin is expected to wear a club cast again this week to protect his broken right thumb.

"When he's healthy enough, he'll definitely get some (carries) back there," Richt said. "We're not going to forget about Lump."

Moreno is averaging 32 yards per game more than Brown, but he's still not ready to take the starting position, Richt said.

"He's talented, but he's still growing," Richt said. "He's still learning what to do, and Thomas is playing extremely well in his own right, and he's a great leader, too."

ANOTHER MILESTONE: Matthew Stafford's game-winning touchdown pass to Mikey Henderson on Saturday was another important step in the sophomore quarterback's career, Richt said.

"The Auburn game (last year) was important for Matthew, but it didn't get down to the crunch time in that game," Richt said. "This was a game where you just had to make plays. He actually in my opinion played good enough to win two games that game. He got us in position to have a game-winning kick and then when that didn't happen he made the play in overtime to help us win."

A SMALL WINDOW: Richt has settled on a practice plan for the media members who cover the team. Media members will be allowed to watch 20 minutes each Tuesday and shut out the remainder of the time.

"Closing practice more than anything else helped the focus," Richt said. "In everybody's mind it was like, ‘Hey, coach is serious about something here.'"
