Bus breaks down, but Dawgs roll on to 9-2

ATHENS – In the end, the Bulldogs beat the Yellow Jackets Saturday. But the win came after some difficulties in Sanford Stadium as well as on the way to it.

One of Georgia's team buses broke down Saturday on the way to the Dawgs' matchup with in-state rival Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs were preparing for senior day, which involves recognizing seniors on the team for their outstanding achievements over the last few seasons.

Instead, it appeared before the game that the Bulldogs might not make even make it to the stadium on time to get their full allotment of warm-ups in before the game along with the recognition on seniors.

"All of the seniors were on the bus that broke down," said quarterback David Greene. "We jumped on another bus," he said.

When asked if the group could have made it by foot if forced the quarterback responded, "that would have been the longest Dawg Walk ever!"

The senior class had its difficulties during the Georgia Tech game.

"I got hurt, David Greene got hurt, Jeremy Thomas got hurt," said senior wide receiver Fred Gibson. "It was just a wild night. It was great to win the football game – besides the bad weather and our bus breaking down."

Still, the Bulldogs managed to win, and this season's senior class goes out never having lost a game to Georgia Tech. It's a feat last accomplished when Quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo led the Bulldogs to a 27-24 win over the Yellow Jackets in 1997.

"It's what you come to Georgia to do," said Greene after the game, "to win games at the end like that against your arch-rival."

Even with the buses broken down, and half the seniors on the sideline broken down, this class left its mark one last time.
