Seniors know what they are up against

ATLANTA – Georgia's seniors know what they are up against this week at the SEC Tournament and they are ready for the challenge.

"We get Auburn (tomorrow) at the Georgia Dome and I want to play them again," said senior Jonas Hayes following Georgia's win over Vanderbilt Saturday in Athens. "I would love another date with them. It was a good game down there the last time that we played," Hayes said.

Georgia is on the outside of the NCAA Tournament looking in right now and the team is focused on that. The SEC Tournament is the only way that the Bulldogs can alter their postseason fate. With the Bulldogs looking to change their fortune in the SEC Tournament once and for all, Hayes said that the outcome against Auburn will be different this time.

"I expect the same but this time I expect to be on the winning side this time. You have got to cherish (the chance to play in the SEC Tournament again). You take so much for granted," he said.

"It is a great opportunity to play again in the post season," said Georgia point guard and team leader Rashad Wright. Wright and the rest of the Bulldogs have never won and SEC Tournament game.

Wright's play will be critical if the Dawgs will have a shot at beating Auburn in the opening game at the Dome. Auburn Head Coach Cliff Ellis said today Georgia's point guard makes it even more difficult for the opposition. Today he said that Wright "brings his hard hat and work boots and is ready to play."

"We need this win," said Damien Wilkins. "We need to get out there and get the job done."

Conventional thinking among the SEC press is that Georgia will get into the NCAA Tournament if they can get to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.

That will be a difficult task, however, because the Bulldogs will not only have to beat Auburn; they will also have to beat powerful Kentucky for the third time in one season. The last team to do that was Tennessee in 1979.
