The duo announced their pledges on Twitter.
“Feels great to officially be a Georgia bulldog! #CommittedTotheG, Cleveland tweeted. “Me and my man (Jacob Eason) are gonna make our presence known in Athens!”
“I have officially made my verbal commitment to play football for the University of Georgia,” Eason tweeted.
Mark Richt was excited as well tweeting: “One of the greatest days TWO be a BULLDOG!!!”
The ramifications of the 2016 duo committing won’t be known for some time, but there is little doubt that Saturday has to be considered one of the better outcomes in Dawg Night history.
Eason, who may be the top quarterback in the country in his class, threw with power and precision on Friday night. He visited Georgia with his family is being hosted by current Georgia quarterback Brice Ramsey for the weekend.
“His arm strength is very impressive, and he throws dart after dart effortlessly,” said Scout national recruiting analyst Chad Simmons. “Eason can throw the short, intermediate and deep passes you need to be elite.”
Cleveland is the top prospect from northeast Georgia in over a generation. The five-star offensive lineman is massive. At 6-5, 320 pounds and not yet in the 11th grade, Cleveland has been serving notice in the camp circuit for the last two years.
“Ben is so strong and he can manhandle defenders when he gets his hands on them,” Simmons said.
