Mike Horton traveled up to Duke Saturday and he not only saw the Blue Devils get a big win over…
Things changing quickly for Horton
Just a month or so ago, Mike Horton had a few schools showing some interest, but nothing too consistent. Georgia Tech was on him early with some mail, but things have really changed in recent weeks. "I am getting a lot of letters from so many schools now and coaches are starting to stop by the school to check on me," said Horton. "Georgia and Vanderbilt were at the school Friday, others have come by, and I am getting letters from Duke, Marshall, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Florida State, Pittsburgh, and so many others now. "Notre Dame is sending me so much mail, Marshall is sending a lot, Georgia is on me a lot now, and it feels great." The letters are nice and knowing that he is on the different radars is nice, but one school surprised him with an offer, and and that will stand out to him for a long time. "Vanderbilt came in with an offer last week and it came out of nowhere. I had not received any type of mail from Vanderbilt, I had not been in contact with them, and then I get a message on Twitter to call and that is when they offered. "I couldn't believe it when they offered me. I did not see it coming and it was very exciting. I have watched Vanderbilt beat Georgia and Florida this season and I want to get up there for a visit. "Vanderbilt being first to offer really puts them up there for me. They have confidence in me and it has a special place in my heart now." Who could be next to offer the 6-foot-4, 310 pound junior out of Atlanta (Ga.) Lakeside? The school he is visiting this weekend is a possibility. "I will be back up at Duke for the Miami game Saturday," said Horton. "I really like their academics, Coach [David] Cutcliffe is a great coach, and I know they are interested in me." After his visit to Duke, the three-star offensive guard will likely take in a game closer to home. "Georgia wants me to come by and see them play, so I will probably be at UGA for the Kentucky game. Coach [Chris] Wilson was at the school Friday and UGA is really interested in me now. I wan to go check them out." Horton is very excited about his first offer, but he does not want it to stop there. He is hoping offer one leads to many more. "Things have really changed in recruiting and a lot more schools know about me now than they did earlier this season. It has picked up for me really fast and I am ready for some more offers to come in. That is what I hopes happens. "The Vanderbilt offer is special, but I want more. That is what I am working for."
