Hoover, Ala. (VU AD)– Texas A&M shut down the No. 1-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores, 5-0, in the second round of the SEC Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Hoover Met.

Vanderbilt (48-8) will play South Carolina on Thursday afternoon at approximately 12:30 p.m. CT. Kevin Ziomek (10-2) is the projected starter on the bump for Vanderbilt. The win advances Texas A&M (32-25) in the winner's bracket.

Texas A&M's Hunter Melton delivered the first run of the game on a solo home run in the top of the second inning. The Aggies made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth after Cole Lankford crushed a solo home run to right field. An RBI-double in the top of the fifth gave A&M a 3-0 lead.

The Commodores looked to strike in the bottom of the fifth but couldn't cash in with runners on second and third. In the very next half inning, Texas A&M hit its third solo home run of the game. This time it was Troy Stein who delivered the blow to give the Aggies a 4-0 lead. Texas A&M added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to reach the final score of 5-0.

Buehler's (4-2) first career postseason start finished after six innings. The freshman gave up four runs on seven hits, three of which were home runs. Steven Rice came in and pitched three innings of relief. The lefty allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Vanderbilt produced just three hits as a team, which ties a season-low. Tony Kemp, Xavier Turner and Spencer Navin recorded one hit apiece. Kemp's multi-hit streak came to an end at seven games.

The Commodores met South Carolina in last season's SEC Tournament when Vanderbilt defeated the Gamecocks in the second round.

The shut out marks the first time all season the Commodores have been held scoreless. Last year's SEC Tournament championship game versus Mississippi State was the last time the Commodores were shut out.
