Biography:

* A superior athlete whose basketball skills have few peers in the college game.
* After just two seasons of college-level competition, Hayes must be considered among the nation's elite players.
* Holds one of basketball's rarest distinctions: individual scoring titles in two different conferences. He won Southern Conference scoring honors as a freshman in 1999 at Western Carolina before repeating in the SEC last season.

2001-02 Season

* Perhaps the biggest reason behind Georgia's 6-game improvement from last season.
* Named SEC Player of the Year by Basketball America, The Sporting News and CNNSI.
* Honorable Mention All-America pick by Associated Press.
* First-team All-SEC selection by both AP and the league's 12 coaches, the eighth player in UGA history to win consensus all-league honors.
* Won SEC scoring titles -- for the entire season and also for just the 16-game league schedule. Secured the overall title by scoring 57 points in Georgia's two NCAA Tournament games.
* Season-high 31 points vs. Murray State in the NCAA Tournament included a 9-for-12 shooting effort in the second half.
* Led the Dogs in scoring 15 times in '02 but also in 10 of the last 15 games.
* His 30-point explosion Jan. 9 at Kentucky was at least a mild surprise, given his preceding shooting slump. Had entered that game having made just one of his last 16 three-point tries.
* Sixteen of his game-high 23 points Jan. 19 at Florida came in the second half and from seven different areas of the floor.
* Sprain of his right knee in Nov. 24 practice slowed what had begun to be an excellent season. Missed 3 subsequent games.
* Voted MVP of the Tipoff Classic win over Georgetown, against which he scored 19 points.

2000-01 Season

* Sat out the season in compliance with NCAA rules regarding transfer students. Practiced with the Bulldogs throughout the season, however.

1999-2000 Season (Western Carolina)

* Named the Freshman of the Year in the Southern Conference after he averaged 17.1 points per game for the Cats.
* Was the SoCon?s first freshman in 40 years to lead the league in scoring.
* Was named a starter by the season?s third game and stayed there for the remainder.

High School (Frederick Douglass)

* Honorable Mention All-American after his senior season at Douglass. Also named the Metro Atlanta Co-Player of the Year by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
* Averaged 28 points and 11 rebounds as a senior, when Douglass reached the semifinal round of the Class AAAAA tournament. Averaged 19 points per game as a junior.

Personal Data

* Full Name: Jarvis James Hayes
* Birthdate / Birthplace: August 9, 1981 in Atlanta, Ga. Was born five minutes ahead of brother Jonas.
* Parents: James and Yvonne Hayes
* Academic Major: Child and Family Development
