Biography:
Orchestrator of six fourth-quarter comeback victories, Clausen has a 17-3 record in his 20 career starts and a well-deserved nickname ... “Ice Man.” With two years of eligibility remaining, he already ranks second on UT’s all-time list in touchdown passes (37) and fifth in passing yards (4,442). Blessed with a remarkably accurate arm and unusual poise for his age, he should be one of the NCAA’s finest QBs this fall. 2001 - Posted a regular-season passing efficiency rating of 150.00 that ranked second in the SEC and 11th nationally, then won Citrus Bowl MVP honors by connecting on 26 of 34 passes for a career-high 393 yards and three touchdowns as UT romped 45-17. Regular-season stats included 227 of 354 passing for 2,969 yards and 22 touchdowns, with just 9 interceptions. 2000 - Graduated early from high school and enrolled at UT in time for spring practice. Supplanted A.J. Suggs as first-team QB in Game 6 vs. Alabama. Went on to earn third-team Freshman All-America recognition from The Sporting News after completing 121 of 194 passes for 1,473 yards and 15 touchdowns. First career pass was a 19-yard touchdown throw to David Martin against Louisiana-Monroe. Made his first career start three games later vs. Bama, completing 17 of 24 attempts for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Hit six of seven passes in marching Vols down the field on game-winning final drive at South Carolina, including clutch third-and-14 throw to Donte’ Stallworth. Threw school record-tyiing five TD passes against Arkansas, including three in 35-point first-quarter explosion. Passed for 364 yards against Kentucky, most ever by a Vol freshman. Struggled in season-ending games with Vanderbilt (14 of 30 for 158 yards with two interceptions) and Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl (7 of 25 for 120 yards with three interceptions).
