| College: 1999 -- Brother of the former Georgia RB star, Robert Edwards ...enrolled in January 1999...played on UGA basketball team second half of 1998-99 season...played in 14 games averaging 7.4 minutes per game, 1.9 points per game, and recorded nine assists and eight steals....participated in spring football drills, including two catches for 46 yards in G-Day game.....started 10 games at SE for the '99 Bulldogs becoming the first freshman since Lindsay Scott (1978) to lead the Bulldogs in receiving (53x772 yards)....set Georgia record for Most Receptions By A Freshman (53) breaking old mark of 36 by Scott in 1978....tied record for most TD receptions in a season with nine....he ranked fourth in the SEC in scoring TD's (9), eighth in receptions (53), and ninth in receiving yards (772)...caught 10 passes for 196 yards in his first game vs. Utah State-both rank second best in Georgia history...first career catch vs. Utah State was 47-yard TD....had nine catches for 25 yards or more including six TD's....ESPN Visa Player of the Game for performance against Tennessee (5x95 yards, 1 TD)...named to 1999 Freshman All-America first team by Football News and second team by The Sporting News....1999 Knoxville News Sentinel All-SEC Freshman Team and SEC Coaches' All-Freshman Team....leading receiver in Georgia's 28-25 come-from-behind overtime victory over Purdue in the Outback Bowl, the biggest comeback in bowl history (from 0-25 deficit) and the first major sporting event of the 21st century (11:07 a.m., Jan. 1, 2000)...recorded eight catches for 97 yards.... |
