| Biography: |
Erasmus James became the Vikings’ second first-round pick of the 2005 draft, and already comparisons are being made to former Vikings defensive end Chris Doleman. If James can stay healthy, he may have a chance to live to up to those lofty comparisons, but injuries have dogged most of his college career.
College: James made a successful recovery from a career-threatening hip injury suffered prior to the 2003 season, made the switch to left end, and finished 2004 with 36 tackles, eight sacks, seven QB pressures and 11.5 tackles for loss while being limited in three games with an ankle injury. Played right end in 2002, registering four sacks, 17 pressures and 52 tackles, seven for losses, all while playing with a sprained knee. Ended his college career with 124 tackles, 18 sacks, seven forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Criminal justice and sociology major.
High School: Moved to New York from the island of St. Kitts and grew up in The Bronx. Moved to Florida and was a standout basketball player in high school, eventually trying football in his senior season at McArthur (Fla.) High. He earned third-team all-state honors after making 53 tackles, 23 for losses, and 14 sacks, and was named the school’s outstanding defensive lineman.
Personal: Born in St. Kitts, a Caribbean island, where his father was the press secretary to the prime minister.
