ATHENS – Top-ranked Georgia football team kicked off game week with a two-hour workout in full pads on Monday at the Woodruff Practice Fields.

The initial part of the practice came during a rainstorm, which affected the tone of the session, according to Coach Mark Richt.

“I thought it was pretty bad,” Richt said. “We got about 10 or 15 minutes of rain, and I think they thought any minute it might be over. But it blew over and it wasn’t over. I hope that’s the only reason they lost the edge. I thought it was just sloppy. It was disappointing, really.”

Richt reported that several players were able to shed their green, non-contact jerseys, including tailbacks Knowshon Moreno and Caleb King. Said Richt, “It was good to see more healthy bodies. ... Caleb looked pretty good today. When I watched him, I would not have known he had an injury.”

Richt was asked about the progress of kicker Blair Walsh, and he used that opportunity to discuss other first-year players.

“He’s excited and confident,” Richt said of Walsh. “But the rubber’s about to meet the road for him and for a lot of the guys. They all are anxious to play. ... I think we’re pretty set with our starters. We just need to determine how many will roll in, who deserves playing time. These guys are excited about their opportunity.”
