Said Cook (6-5, 265) Sunday: "I'm ready to be a Dog.''
Cook is big enough to possibly develop into a defensive tackle at Georgia, and he is strong enough to have won the Georgia High School Class AA shot put championship at Washington-Wilkes High School.
Despite that size and strength, Cook also ran on Washington-Wilkes' 4 x 100 state championship relay team. That combination of skills make Cook a hot recruit who has been pursued by Florida State and Tennessee, among others.
Cook said he was canceling all his visits to other schools, including a scheduled visit to Tennessee next weekend.
Cook is Georgia's 21st verbal commitment but the first defensive lineman on its list.
Rated by TheInsiders.com as the No. 29 defensive end overall, Cook recorded 65 tackles and six sacks for Washington-Wilkes as a senior. He is also a member of the BorderWars.com 101 Team as one of the top defensive line prospects in the south.
"I pretty much came to Georgia this weekend already knowing this was where I want to be,'' Cook said. "It's pretty close to home and I'm a mama's boy. My cousin (offensive lineman Antonio Mercier) is there.''
Even before the addition of Cook, Georgia's recruiting class was ranked in the top five nationally by TheInsiders.
