Scout's South Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons has evaluated Ryan Ayers a number of times in games, camps, 7on7 tournaments, and combines. He offers his thoughts on him.
Simmons' Scouting Report: Ayers is a true corner that plays safety in high school because that is where he helps his team most. He has excellent closing speed, he has great ball skills, and he is very physical. He plays much bigger than his size (5-10/170) would lead people to think. From the back peddle, to rotating his hips to reading the quarterback, Ayers has the tools to be a very good one on the next level. He will need to add some weight, continue to work on footwork, and get reps at corner since he spends most of his time at safety for Coach Glanton, but he is clearly the top corner in Georgia and one of the best in the South.
Note: Ayers missed over half of the 2008 season because of a high ankle sprain. It nagged him throughout the season, but he made big plays late in the season when he was fully healthy.
