Long meets with future coaches

Signing Day is less than a month away and the University of Georgia is hitting the road as much as possible. They visited a top commitment on Saturday and the visit went well.

Last spring, not many prospects were hotter than offensive tackle Austin Long. Alabama offered first, Georgia offered two days later, and then the flood gates opened up. He took visits, he reeled in over 20 offers, and late in the spring he picked UGA. The coaches are happy with his selection and they paid him a visit over the weekend.

“Coach Richt, Coach Searels, Coach Bobo, and Coach Ball came in for the visit and everything was nice,” said the Tennessee tackle. “We talked about my back injury, other recruits they are going after, and we watched the Georgia-Tennessee basketball game on T.V. It was a good visit and we just hung out.” Long’s back injury is coming along well and the Georgia coaches are happy about that. He is headed back to the doctor on January 21 and he will start therapy after that. Long would fit right in with some of the current Bulldog OLs on campus right now. Because of those injured, it could allow an early enrollee a chance to start this spring.

“Coach Searels told me that Dallas Lee might be first team guard during spring practice because of all the injuries on the offensive line. The team had a meeting Saturday morning and Coach Searels said Dallas is really liking everything. I just want to get healthy and get down there. We have not really talked about my specific tackle position, but we have talked a little about how I will fit in when I get there. I can't wait.”

The 6-foot-6, 270 pound four-star offensive tackle plans to be in Athens the first week of June. His health should be 100 percent and that is good news to Searels and the UGA coaching staff.

“He just wants me healthy when I get there,” said Austin Long. “I am not going to rush anything or try to do something I am not supposed to because I want to be ready to go to work when I get down there.”

While watching the Dawgs fall to the Vols on the hard-court, the quartet of UGA coaches sat with the Long family and talked about guys they would like to join Austin in this class. The list is not that long, but it is very talented.

“We talked about Marlon Brown (UGA visited after they left Long’s house), Orson Charles, Bobby Massie, and guys like that. We talked about the guys Georgia really wants. I have been working on Marlon – I text him, stay in touch with him, and I have gotten to know him pretty well. I hope we get him. I think this class is great already, but I hope we add a few more guys to it.”

Getting Brown would make Long and the staff at Georgia very happy, but Long is already about excited about the players coming in with him, the group that is already on campus, and the coaches he will be playing for. The Dawgs have become like a second family to Long and he could not feel better about his decision.

“I have talked to Coach Richt on the phone some, I know Coach Searels very well, and I just feel very comfortable around the coaches. My whole family is comfortable and we just can’t wait for signing day to come. The Georgia coaches are excited about it and I am excited about it too. I feel very good about my decision and I can’t wait to get down to Georgia.”
