OFf Week: Wednesday Practice Report

Posted Nov 19, 2008

ATHENS - After a couple of days of just running and lifting weights, the Georgia returned to the practice field Wednesday for a two-hour workout in full pads.

The Bulldogs (9-2) have an open date this Saturday after playing four consecutive weeks on the road. Georgia will practice again at 5:30 a.m. Thursday and then Friday is slated to be another running and lifting session. The team will take the weekend off and resume the normal game week practice schedule on Monday, Nov. 24. Georgia head coach Mark Richt said Thursday's early morning workout is due to academic responsibilities of several student-athletes.

"The morning is the best practice time for us Thursday as we have a lot of academic issues in the afternoon," said Richt. "We're leaving it up to the guys to get here in the morning."

Richt said the Bulldogs began their preparation for the final regular season game with Georgia Tech.

"Today was not pretty but it was a start," said Richt. "Bacarri Rambo ran their (Georgia Tech) system for our scout team, and he's a very talented runner and passer. He's not a bad quarterback. We'll get more scout team work this week."

Rambo, a 6-1, 208-pound native of Donalsonville, Ga., is a true freshman safety who is being redshirted this season. Redshirt freshman quarterback Logan Gray has seen action as a punt returner this season, and Richt said he has done a nice job in that role.

"He's been in there in situations where he's deep, like at the 10 yard line, and he has to decide whether to catch it or let it go," said Richt. "He has had a chance to return a few, and he's made good decisions. That's half the battle there and also to catch the ball."
