Alabama Week: Tuesday Practice Reports

Posted Sep 23, 2008

ATHENS - Head coach Mark Richt was pleased but not overwhelmed following his team's two-and-a-half-hour practice in full pads on Tuesday afternoon in Athens.

"It was was pretty good, but on Saturday pretty good isn't going to be good enough," Richt said. "We've got to get better."

No. 3 Georgia (4-0, 1-0 SEC) will host No. 8 Alabama (4-0, 1-0) on ESPN at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. The contest will be the highest ranked matchup in Sanford Stadium in nearly a quarter century, since No. 3 Auburn defeated No. 4 Georgia, 13-7, on Nov. 12, 1983.

Earlier in the day Richt conducted his weekly press briefing with the media to discuss Saturday's date with Alabama.

"It¹s a very exciting week for us, no doubt," Richt said. "We are playing a great team -- a top 10 team and one that is coached by one of the finest coaches in America. They are number one in the conference in rushing offense, number two in scoring offense, number three in scoring defense, number three in rushing defense, number three in total defense and number one in fourth down conversions. They have scored 64 points in the first quarter to zero. They have been tested, they just have whipped everybody so bad it didn¹t seem like they were. To play a top-10 team in Clemson and play Arkansas they way they did, they made it look like they weren¹t tested. They are a dominant team right now and a very confident team right now."

Also on Tuesday, plans for the telecast of ESPN's College Football GameDay from Athens on Saturday were finalized. The show will air from 10:00 a.m. to noon from the quad in UGA's Honors Residential Community adjacent to the Myers, Rutherford, Mary Lyndon and Soule dormitories.

Due to the staging of GameDay, the quad will not be available for tailgaters to set up prior to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Approximately half of the quad will be utilized by ESPN throughout Saturday. The remaining 50 percent will return to its traditional usage on game Saturdays beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Popular co-hosts Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit will anchor GameDay. Fans are welcome to view the show live on Saturday morning. Security will begin to allow spectators into a barricaded section behind the GameDay set beginning at 7:00 a.m. Once filled, additional spectators will be allowed in additional areas behind the set, which will feature the Myers dorm as its backdrop
