Alabama Week: Monday Practice Report

Posted Sep 22, 2008

ATHENS - After running its record to 4-0 over the weekend, the third-ranked Georgia football team on Monday kicked off preparations for its upcoming game with Alabama.

The Bulldogs are 4-0 overall after topping Arizona State 27-10 in Tempe on Saturday. Georgia also is 1-0 in the SEC, having knocked off South Carolina two weeks ago. Alabama also is 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC.

As per their normal Monday routine, the Bulldogs did conditioning for the first part and ended with special teams work.

“It was a good night and a good start to the week,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “The guys are happy about the win at Arizona State, but they have filed that one away and are locked in on this week’s game against a talented Alabama team. I really liked our focus and tempo and energy tonight.”

Richt announced the captains for this week’s game will be Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno on offense, Rennie Curran on defense and Tony Wilson on special teams.

Earlier Monday, it was announced that legendary football play-by-play announcer Larry Munson had announced his retirement from the radio booth. Munson began broadcasting Georgia games in 1966.

Also Monday, flanker A.J. Green was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week. Green recorded career highs in both receptions (eight) and yards receiving (159) during the Bulldogs’ 27-10 win over Arizona State. Green also scored a touchdown and tallied the first rush of his career, which went for five yards. He leads the Bulldogs with 16 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns. Green is second in the SEC with an average of 75.0 yards per game and he has the most yards of any receiver in the league.

The No. 3 Bulldogs welcome No. 8 Alabama to Sanford Stadium on Saturday, Sept 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m
