Posted Sep 8, 2008

ATHENS Sporting a 2-0 record against non-conference opponents, the second-ranked Georgia football team kicked off preparations for its SEC opener and first road game by practicing for an hour on Monday.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 after defeating Georgia Southern and Central Michigan. On Saturday, the Bulldogs will visit South Carolina. The Gamecocks are 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the SEC.

At Monday¹s practice, the Bulldogs did conditioning for the first part and ended with special teams work.

³I really think special teams will play a crucial role in this game,² Georgia coach Mark Richt said. ³We need to focus and concentrate on all the little things this week. We need to be sharp on offense, defense and special teams, and we got off to a good start for the week tonight. I liked our focus and I liked our tempo.²

Richt announced the captains for this week¹s game will be Mohamed Massaquoi on offense, Rennie Curran and Geno Atkins on defense, and Ramarcus Brown on special teams.

Earlier Monday, the league office announced that tailback Knowshon Moreno had been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week. In the win over Central Michigan, Moreno rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 30 yards.
