The team practiced in helmets and shorts during Thursday’s final preparation session, which lasted 90-minutes at the Woodruff Practice Fields. Prior to the practice, head coach Mark Richt met with the media and stated that he was hoping that the weather for Thursday’s practice would be hot.
“The best thing that could happen today is that it be hot and be humid,” Richt said. “We’re going to be on the field turf and usually when it’s a little bit hotter we go on the grass, but we just haven’t felt much heat lately. I’m hoping it’s steamy out there a little bit to give them a taste of what it might be like on Saturday.”
Richt also noted that he is glad the time to play ball is almost here and that there’s several areas of the team he is ready to see play this weekend.
“I’m really curious to see who the punt returner is going to be,” Richt said. “Really and truly, I’m kind of curious to see how it’s going to be. I think that’s going to be a game day decision. There are a lot of things. I’m really curious to see how that (offensive) line plays together, curious to see how Blair Walsh will handle his responsibility and curious to see the freshmen – the redshirt and true freshmen.”
Richt went on to say that he projected at least 15, if not more, redshirt freshmen would see action against Georgia Southern along with somewhere around 10 true freshmen getting on the field.
