Kiante Tripp, the projected starter at right tackle, switched spots with Josh Davis, who had been running with the first-team on the left side, for a majority of Friday’s practice. It was a move head coach Mark Richt said was made out of necessity.
“We would have rather not even had to practice (Tripp) over there, but when your depth gets to a certain point, you have a tackle who’s got to play both, and he’s got to rep at the right side and the left side technique-wise,” Richt said.
The primary first-team line Friday included Tripp at left tackle, Davis at right, with Vince Vance and Cordy Glenn playing the guard spots and Chris Davis at center.
That lineup is likely to change again, particularly when Clint Boling returns from a one-game suspension to start the season, but Richt said he hoped to have a plan in place by the time Georgia scrimmages Georgia Southern on Wednesday.
“We hope to have it set by then, at least who’s going to start,” Richt said. “If we’re going to do a little rolling around, we might rotate a little bit. But we should know who the starter (at left tackle) is by then.”
