2008 Fall Camp: Day Two Practice Report

Posted Aug 5, 2008

ATHENS – Georgia team held its second preseason practice Tuesday. Ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll, the Bulldogs worked out in shorts and helmets for two hours.

Following Tuesday’s practice, head coach Mark Richt met with the media and addressed the first two days of practice.

“Yesterday, it was a fairly typical first day,” Richt noted. “The veterans looked a lot better than the rookies as far as effort and technique although I saw some young guys show some athleticism and eagerness to learn and try to do what a coach says. That’s encouraging.

“It was very hot yesterday,” Richt added. “It could have been as hot today, but I don’t really know. It didn’t seem as hot. I don’t know if it was nervous energy or what, but we handled today a lot better as far as overall energy of the team. I thought I saw a lot of nice plays. Some guys that I thought have stood out to this point are our quarterbacks. They are throwing the ball really well in my opinion.”

Additionally, Richt mentioned that the tailback corps looked “sharp and crisp” in their ability to make cuts in their runs, read plays and execute fundamentals.

Richt also indicated that A.J. Green incurred a hip flexor strain during the first practice on Monday, while Prince Miller suffered a bruised shoulder in that practice as well.

“Everybody probably wants to ask about A.J. Green, but A.J., relatively early in practice, got a little bit of a hip flexor strain,” Richt said. “It’s nothing serious, but it was enough to keep him out of yesterday and today.”

“Unfortunately, Prince Miller laid out for an interception or to knock the ball away and hurt his shoulder. It won’t require any surgery, but it’s going to be sore,” Richt added.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Bulldogs will also wear shoulder pads during practice. After a Friday practice in shells, the first two-a-day practice will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9 with a full-pads practice during the morning session.
