2008 Fall Camp: Day 1 Practice Report

Posted Aug 4, 2008

ATHENS - One down and 25 to go, practices that is before the first game, for the University of Georgia football team. Monday marked the first workout for the 2008 edition of the Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll.

Georgia held a two-hour session in shorts and helmets. After practice, Bulldog head coach Mark Richt said Monday was a typical first day.

"We had a lot of young guys learning what to do, and the older guys were back to creating good habits," said Richt. "It was very hot, but everybody fought through it, and we'll be back to work Tuesday."

Richt added it's exciting to see the freshmen hit the field for the first time as a Georgia Bulldog.

"It's one thing to see them move around in shorts and helmets, but it will be interesting to see how they handle the contact and the grind of camp," Richt said.

Tuesday's schedule will be the same as Monday. On Wednesday and Thursday, the squad will add shoulder pads as well. After a Friday practice in shells, the first two-a-day practice will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9 with a full-pads practice during the morning session.
