Lemon, a Lizella native who graduated from Stratford Academy, was kicked off the team on July 13 after being charged with felony battery for an incident with another man at an Athens apartment complex. Five days later, Herbert Hart Jr. pleaded guilty to killing Lemon’s mother, 39-year-old Phaba Lemon, who died in February 2007.
Richt also held out hope Thursday that Lemon could play for the Bulldogs again, but it won’t happen in 2008.
“We are tying to provide a path that could lead him back to Georgia,” Richt said. “There is no guarantee of that at all. There are a lot of things that have to happen to even put him in position to get that consideration.”
Lemon may play at GMC next season, Richt said,
“My goal for Michael is for him as he leaves this program is to go somewhere where he can continue his education and play football,” Richt said. “I hope for him that it can be at Georgia (in the future) because that’s what he wants, and I love him very much.”
