At the time this video was shot it was hard to know for sure where Richard Samuel would line up in college. His high school coaching staff felt he was best suited to play linebacker in college and beyond. Georgia put him in at running back, perhaps because of depth, and he thrived there.
It is still hard to know for sure if Samuel is going to play linebacker or running back in the future. He’s very young, but he’s super talented and can move impressively for a young running back. He didn’t break a lot of tackles the night I watched him live, but when I saw him in Athens he was doing a better job of that. If Samuel stays at running back, which seems more likely than not now that he’s lined up on that side of the ball, he is going to be a player that could explode on the scene in a couple of seasons. One can not emphasize his youth enough – the fact that he can line up with guys nearly five years older than him and hold his own shows his tremendous upside.
