Green ready to report in June

ATHENS – The most anticipated Georgia recruit of the last few seasons will be in Athens very soon.

“I’m going up on June 2nd,” said Summerville wide receiver A.J. Green. “I would say I am very excited about it.”

Green, considered a five-star prospect by Scout.com, was the second player in the class of 2008 to commit to the Bulldogs; he did so after the Dawgs’ 2006 loss to Tennessee. From that point forward Green held steady – he was no interested in schools other than Georgia.

“He was a guy who was firm and did not waiver one time,” Georgia head coach Mark Richt said on Signing Day in February.

Green will join fellow wide receiver Tavarres King, who joined the team in January after graduating high school early, as a lethal duo that makes up Georgia’s 2008 receivers. Green said he’s been in touch recently with Georgia assistant coach Jon Fabris. The defensive ends coach checked in on Green.

“He wanted to make sure everything was still good with my grades,” Green said of the discussion. “But I’ve known for a while now that everything was good with that. He was just checking to make sure everything was ok.”

Green was featured on the 2008 Recruiting Guide of Dawg Post. He has also played in numerous all-star games, including the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
