Murray, considered the #8 quarterback in the country and arguably the best player in Florida, will decide between the Bulldogs and Gators – he is also considering UCLA, but the Bruins are a heavy underdog to the two SEC powers.
Murray has not talked with the media since announcing his decision to hold a press conference at his high school, which is scheduled for 11 AM Thursday at Plant High School in Tampa.
The decision has been tight lipped, as even Murray’s high school teammate Orson Charles, who has visited both Gainesville and Athens with the quarterback, does not know which school the signal caller will pick.
“I really don’t know,” Charles said “I’m going to find out when everyone else does.”
Two weeks ago no one would have figured the Bulldogs would have been picked over the Gators, but after returning from trips to Los Angeles, Athens and, finally, Gainesville, Murray remained uncommitted. Most speculated that because he’d not committed to Florida at their annual spring game, and because Tom Savage, who was being recruited by Georgia committed to Rutgers, that everything was in place for Murray to pick Georgia – something no one will know until the press conference.
Georgia already has one quarterback committed for the Class of 2009 – Zach Mettenberger. It has been the stated goal of Mark Richt that the Dawgs sign two quarterbacks this class. The Bulldogs chose not to sign a signal caller in 2008.
