Jones commits to Georgia

ATHENS – On what is a rain-filled day, Abry Jones just brightened the day of many fans of the red and black.

Abry Jones profile

"I committed to Georgia on Thursday," Jones said today. "I told Coach Garner that I was committed to Georgia, and he was very excited."

Jones is considered a four-star prospect by Scout.com. He is the anchor of arguably the best defensive line in Georgia – Northside. He makes for the seventh commitment for the Bulldogs for the Class of 2009. He is the first defensive lineman the Bulldogs have received a commitment from. Jones picked Georgia over Clemson and Miami. He had been considered a Georgia lean for some time.

"Coach Garner has been reminding me that I am their top guy at my spot for some time," Jones said. The Northside product visited Athens for spring practice earlier this year, and had a lot of focus on him from the coaching staff at the time.

"I was lucky enough to talk with Coach Richt," said Jones of his visit to Athens for their junior day earlier this spring. "He just asked me about my family. He asked me about the dates for coming tests that are coming up. He wanted me to make sure to get the NCAA Clearinghouse stuff going."
