Dawgs get ready for G-Day with limited roster

ATHENS – Georgia, a team that seemed overrun with depth a month ago, is going to be a little thin in today’s G-Day game.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 2:07 p.m. at Sanford Stadium.

Minor injuries will force several of the team’s players, including three of the spring’s most impressive receivers, to miss the game. Freshman Tavarres King developed an infection in his knee this week that has him walking on crutches and taking antibiotics.

“It did swell up to the point where we had to pump the antibiotics into him,” head coach Mark Richt said. “It could be just a couple more days, but he won’t be able to go (today). I’m sure a lot of people wanted to see him.”

King will join Mohamed Massaquoi (neck) and probably Kenneth Harris (ankle) on the sideline. Harris has a chance to play, Richt said.

Houston County native Quintin Banks, a sophomore safety, will miss the game due to a shoulder injury.

Head athletic trainer Ron Courson “thought it was more of just a (bruise) than any kind of separation or anything like that,” Richt said.

Defensive end Jeremy Lomax (neck strain) also will sit out. Kiante Tripp suffered a minor knee injury, but he is expected to play today, Richt said.

Georgia planned to play 10-minute quarters but changed it to eight-minute quarters due to concerns about depth.
