Harris goes to Georgia's junior day

ATHENS – The name Andre Harris has been out there for some time now.

The Clayton County prospect has been getting attention from college coaches for some time now. This weekend he visited Georgia on that program’s junior day.

“They really focused on academics this trip,” Harris said. “I’ve been to Georgia a couple of other different times, but we got to hear the players talk about what their day is like today. The other times I’d been to Athens we really got there in time to eat and go to the games.”

This time, Harris and the other recruits got the focus of the Georgia family’s emphasis the expectations success in academics.

“They said they have a tutor ready all of the time,” he said. “They said they expect their players to graduate in four years and to have a 3.0 GPA or above in doing it.”

Harris said he’d heard a focus on academics from other schools, too, just not the part about maintaining a “B” average.

“That was new for me – I’d not head that before,” he said. “A lot of the other places I visited talked about graduating and showed off the academics, but the 3.0 was something I’d never heard before.”

Harris plans to take in Auburn’s junior day next weekend. He left Athens without an offer, but will continue to get out and about – looking for the college that’s right for him.

“I hear from Georgia, LSU, Florida, Auburn – pretty much everyone in the South,” he said. “I’m grateful my name got out there early so I could take advantage and see lots of different places.”
