All signs point to Lilly being hired

ATHENS – All signs point to John Lilly being named the tight ends coach at Georgia in the coming days or weeks.

The Florida State tight end/recruiting coordinator just completed his 13th season at the Tallahassee school. Lilly would replace former tight ends coach David Johnson, who left the Georgia coaching staff a week ago to become the offensive line coach at West Virginiaa story first reported on Scout.com.

While Lilly has not yet formally agreed to the position, numerous sources in Athens and Tallahassee have said he is on the way to Georgia. What is unclear is the time at which he will join the staff. Some sources have said Lilly will join the Bulldog staff as early as this week, while others say its possible Lilly will be named just after signing day. Several of the sources indicated that Lilly will be announced as the tight ends coach no earlier than this Friday.

The move to hire Lilly, who was the number one target for Mark Richt for this spot, will likely keep four-star tight end Dwayne Allen committed to the Bulldogs. Lilly has been recruiting Allen for the Seminoles, and has a strong relationship with Allen.
