Athletics director Damon Evans addressed the issue of building an indoor facility Wednesday at the quarterly meeting of the UGA Athletic Association board of directors, but he didn't suggest the project was imminent.
"We are in the exploratory phase, right at the beginning," Evans said. "Our goal is to do what is most appropriate for our football program to allow us to compete at the highest level."
Evans hopes to present the board a list of football facility priorities at its winter meeting, he said. Richt thinks the indoor facility will be built at the same time Butts-Mehre is expanded, he said. Richt doesn't know an exact timeline but thinks it will be in the "very near future," he said.
Georgia will have to raise funds to build an indoor facility if it happens, Evans said.
"I'll be ready, willing and able (to raise money)," Richt said. "I'll be excited about doing whatever it takes."
