Vandy Week: Wednesday Practice Report

Posted Oct 10, 2007

ATHENS - The No. 24-ranked Georgia Bulldogs continued preparations for their Southeastern Conference clash with Vanderbilt by holding a two-hour workout Wednesday.

After practice, Georgia coach Mark Richt said senior linebacker Brandon Miller is doubtful for the game due to a calf muscle injury incurred during agility drills earlier this week. If Miller is unavailable, Richt said the Bulldogs will likely start redshirt freshman Akeem Dent at strongside linebacker with junior Dannell Ellerbe in the middle and either sophomore Darius Dewberry or freshman Rennie Curran at the weakside spot.

Dent has one career start, coming earlier this year in the win over Western Carolina when he tied for the team-high that day with six tackles. Meanwhile, Curran registered career-high seven tackles against the Volunteers last week. Richt added redshirt freshman Darryl Gamble has improved this season and could have an increased role this Saturday as well.

Overall, Richt was pleased with Wednesday's session, pointing out the Bulldogs showed good focus and energy throughout the day.

"We turned up the intensity especially in our one-on-one and 11-on-11 drills," said Richt. "We spiced up the competition a bit and played a little spring ball. We would've done it yesterday too if not for the weather moving us indoors."
