ATHENS - Josh Kendall's news and notes from Georgia's fall camp.

POSITION UPDATES: It looks like there will be more shuffling in Georgia’s linebacker corps this week. Marcus Washington is working with the starters at middle linebacker and Dannell Ellerbe is now the first-teamer on the weak side, linebackers coach John Jancek said. Akeem Dent and Brandon Miller are splitting time on the first-team offense at strongside linebacker, and Darius Dewberry is working as the No. 2 weak side linebacker, Jancek said.

Ellerbe, Georgia’s leading tackler, started the first three games of the year at middle linebacker.

On the offensive line, it looks like redshirt freshman Chris Davis and true freshman Clint Boling will start at guard. Davis and Boling worked with the first team Tuesday, tackle Chester Adams said. That will leave Scott Haverkamp as the top backup at both guard positions.

SMACK TALK: Alabama defensive end Wallace Gilberry is planning to become very familiar with Stafford by the end of Saturday’s game.

“After the game, I can tell you anything you want to know, his birthday, his telephone number, his home address,” the Alabama senior said. “I’m serious, because I will know.”

Gilberry needs Stafford’s address because “I’ve got to know where to send the flowers after the game,” he said.

Gilberry made it clear he was joking, and Stafford took it as such.

“That’s great, my mom loves flowers,” Stafford said. “If I was a d-linemen, I’d love to say the same kind of stuff. That’s good material. I like it. It’s all fun. It’s just competition and guys having fun, getting ready for the game.”

STILL ON FENCE: Senior running back Kregg Lumpkin, who broke his right thumb in the first game of the year, could return this week to special teams work. It’s doubtful he’ll be allowed to carry the ball, though, since he would have to hold it exclusively in his left hand.

“I’m just excited to get back out there with the fellas,” Lumpkin said.
