ATHENS - Josh Kendall's news and notes from Georgia's fall practice.

UP THE GUT: Georgia will rotate five defensive tackles, with junior Jeff Owens and sophomoreKade Weston starting, line coach Rodney Garner said. Sophomore Geno Atkins, who is close to supplanting Weston, according to Garner, and GMC transfers Jarius Wynn and Corvey Irvin also will play, Garner said.

“Those other guys are going to play; they’re going to play early, and they’re going to play a lot,” Garner said. “We’ll see who’s hot and who’s not.”

KICKOFF UPDATE: Brandon Coutu isn’t ready to commit to anything, but it looks like he’ll be kicking off Saturday.

“I was the only guy kicking today (in practice), that’s all I can say,” he said.

Coach Mark Richt said he isn’t sure either.

“I ask (assistant coach Jon Fabris) every day, and he won’t give me a straight answer,” Richt said.

INJURY UPDATE: Backup fullback Jason Johnson suffered a neck injury Tuesday. Either redshirt freshmen Shaun Chapas or Fred Munzenmaier is capable of taking over the backup spot, Richt said.

Sophomore wide receiver Kris Durham was cleared for practice Wednesday after missing two weeks due to a concussion. He will be ready to play Saturday, Richt said.

GOOD EATS: Fans will have a few more eating options this year at Sanford Stadium. A Moe’s Southwest Grill and McAlister’s Deli will be open in the stadium Saturday. The Moe’s will serve chicken burritos, chips and salsa. The McAlister’s will serve turkey and ham cold deli sandwiches.

Seven new commemorative cups will be available throughout the season.

THIS AND THAT: True freshman tight end Bruce Figgins is the leader of the starting job Saturday, tight ends coach David Johnson said Wednesday. … Senior running backs Thomas Brown and Kregg Lumpkin have been added to the 2007 Doak Walker Award watch list. … Saturday’s Dog Walk will be held at 5:05 p.m. … Offensive lineman Fernando Velasco and Thomas Brown (offense), linebacker Brandon Miller (defense) and safety Kelin Johnson (special teams) will be the captains for the first game.
