The Bulldogs put on the full pads for the final time before the 2007 season opener on Saturday. Coach Mark Richt said he was pleased with his team¹s effort, particularly after the Bulldogs¹ good work in Saturday¹s two sessions.
³It was a pretty good day,² Richt said. ³I thought the guys were grinding it out. It was not as hot, so we didn¹t take as many breaks. I thought the guys held up pretty well. We had pretty good energy.²
Richt was asked about tailback Thomas Brown, who has grabbed the No. 1 spot on the depth chart as he returns from a knee injury that wiped out most of his 2006 campaign.
³His work ethic is unbelievable,² Richt said. ³You just can¹t keep him off the field. We could not have predicted that he would come back that strong and that confident. He practices with a lot of energy. He gives maximum effort every day.²
The injury report was not as good for safety Antavious Coates, who endured his fourth torn ACL on Saturday and is done for the season. Richt said the redshirt sophomore would like to coach one day, and he will get a head start as a student coach with the Bulldogs this season.
³He will still help us and be a contributor,² Richt said. ³He¹s a beautiful kid who hasn¹t complained once. He has a wonderful attitude.²
