ATHENS - The 13th-ranked Georgia football team returned to Sanford Stadium on Thursday night and scrimmaged against a scout team posing as Oklahoma State. Georgia took the field at around 6:45 p.m., which is when the Bulldogs will square off against the Cowboys on Sept. 1.

Following two hours of scrimmaging with a mixture of regular game action and special situations, head coach Mark Richt gave his take on the intensity the Bulldogs brought to the field.

³We tried to simulate a real game by going through our pre-game warm-up, trying to simulate a full first half, but the energy level was not where you want it to be,² Richt said. ³It is hard to get jacked up about playing the scout team.²

Richt highlighted junior flanker Demiko Goodman¹s 50-yard touchdown catch, senior Jason Johnson¹s 62 yards on six carries and sophomore quarterback Matthew Stafford¹s 4-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman fullback Shaun Chapas.

On defense, Richt said that redshirt freshman Demarcus Dobbs registered three tackles, a sack and a forced fumble and freshman Rennie Curran had a pass break-up.

Although Richt did not confirm who would be starting at tailback for his team, he said that senior Thomas Brown not only provides ³outstanding pass protection,² but that he also brings other intangibles to Georgia¹s huddle.

³Thomas brings energy, toughness, leadership and he¹s a powerful guy who plays with a physical attitude,² said Richt.

Freshman quarterback Logan Gray, who played the role of Oklahoma State¹s quarterback, not only scored against the Bulldog defense on a 10-yard run, but Richt also said he was able to avoid pressure in the backfield throughout the scrimmage.

³Logan did a nice job tonight,² said Richt. ³He had a couple completions to his buddy Aron White (who attended Rock Bridge High School with Gray in Columbia, Mo.) and he ran well and scored a touchdown. He also escaped some situations that normally would have been sacks.²
