2007 Fall Camp: Day Seven Practice Report

UGA VI

ATHENS - Preparing for its first scrimmages of the preseason, the Georgia football team worked out for about 90 minutes in full pads on Friday at the Woodruff Practice Fields.

The Bulldogs will have a pair of scrimmages on Saturday. Georgia coach Mark Richt said his team will have a special teams scrimmage in the morning, followed by a full-squad scrimmage later in the day. Each scrimmage will take place at Sanford Stadium.

Richt said the scrimmages will be very important as the coaches continue to formulate the depth chart.

³We try to reserve judgment until the scrimmages,² Richt said. ³We get an inclination as to what we think, but we don¹t make decisions until the scrimmages. The special teams scrimmage is very important. Guys can prove to us that they can help us in there. If a guy¹s a starter on defense and onsome special teams, he may move off some of the special teams and that opens a job for a younger guy.²

Richt said the full-squad scrimmage may take place at night to give the Bulldogs a break from the heat. Temperatures in Athens reached in the low 100s again on Friday.

³We might go under the lights,² Richt said. ³(The heat is) brutal. It showed today. It was rough on them. It¹s as hot as I can remember.²

Richt said offensive lineman Chester Adams (ankle), receiver Mikey Henderson (hip) and tight end Tripp Chandler (ribs) likely will miss the scrimmages, but could return to practice on Monday.
