Dawgs in front, but Bama around for Williams

Nick Williams

Nick Williams was not well known to the Internet community until he had an excellent showing at Georgia's Mark Richt Camp in June.

Good thing for Williams, too, because he like Georgia – a lot.

"I like Georgia. They are my top college," he said. "I am naturally drawn to Georgia. I grew up watching them. Mom loves them and has always liked them. She always told me that she would like me to go there."

His mother's thoughts aside, Williams says he likes most everything about the Bulldogs.

"The atmosphere and the vibe of the coaches is great," he said.

But one former Georgia coach and player may be making Williams' decision a little bit harder. Kirby Smart, who played in Athens during the late 1990s and was a coach on the 2005 SEC Championship team, is recruiting Williams for Alabama, and in the process is keeping the Tide in the ball game.

"Kirby is from Bainbridge, and I would love to play for him," Williams admitted. "Alabama – It reminds me a lot of Georgia because of Kirby. He's from my high school, and I am attached to him."

When asked about being pursued by two coaches so close to one another, Williams says it's a little awkward.

"Coach Bobo and Coach Smart are best friends," Williams confirmed. "So that's a little strange, but I think I will end up the right place no matter who I like."

Williams said he will visit South Carolina's campus soon and that UAB and Louisville are also interested in him. Florida State, only miles from Bainbridge, has "been calling" but the rising senior has not been there for a visit.

Still, Georgia is in the driver's seat and the Bulldogs seem to be very difficult to beat.

"I like the way Georgia worked us at their camp," he said. "I think I would fit right in at Georgia."

Williams said that he's not certain when he will make his decision on college, but that his parents are behind him totally.

"I may decide right before school or I my wait it out," he said. "I will discuss it with my parents. They are behind me 100%."
