ATHENS – David Pollack was back on Georgia’s sidelines Saturday, but it’s too soon to know when, or if, he’ll return to the playing field again.

“I’m just living day-to-day,” Pollack said after the team’s annual spring game, for which he served as one of four guest coaches. “I’m just trying to get normal before I think about playing football.”

Normal would mean being able to move his head fully from side to side with no pain, Pollack said. The three-time Bulldog All-American, now a linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals, fractured the C-6 vertebra in his neck during Sept. 17 in a game against the Cleveland Browns. He had surgery in December to repair the damage.

“I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing, working hard, rehabbing,” he said. “I’m getting more and more normal, as normal as I was anyway.”

Pollack was joined by former Bulldogs Jon Stinchcomb, Will Witherspoon and Hines Ward on the sidelines for the G-Day game.

“It was awesome,” Pollack said. “It’s always good to come back home.”

He also expressed confidence in the defense he used to lead, despite the fact that he watched it give up 55 points and 642 yards Saturday.

“It’s the spring game, that’s what it’s set up for,” Pollack said. “Remember Coach (Mark) Richt is an offensive guy. You can’t touch the quarterback, stuff like that. I’m not worried about the defense. Has defense ever been a problem here?"
