“Our program has shown steady improvement over the last three years under Dennis and I’m pleased that we have extended his contract,” said Evans. “We look forward to continuing the rebuilding process of our program under his leadership.”
Also approved was a $50,000 raise bringing his total annual compensation to $760,000.
“I was pleased to accept the athletic director’s recommendation for an extension of Coach Felton’s contract,” said UGA President Dr. Michael Adams. “The basketball program has made progress and we look forward to continued improvement.”
Georgia’s improvement over the past three years is reflected in its record of 8-20 with two SEC wins (2005), 15-15 with five SEC victories (2006), and 19-14 with eight SEC wins (2007). The improvement has also been accompanied by an upgraded non-conference schedule over the past three seasons, as well as a conference schedule in the SEC East -- perhaps the most difficult division in the country.
“I’m appreciative of the confidence shown by the athletic administration and athletic board in the progress we have made and the progress we’ll continue to make,” said Felton. “I’m excited about the future and continuing to build the program into what we all want it to be.”
