Richard Samuel, a linebacker/running back from Cass in Cartersville, committed to Georgia today, according to his head coach.
“He let Coach Richt know that he is committed to being a Bulldog,” Rick Casko said by telephone.
Samuel already had offers from Tennessee and Clemson. Those two schools offered him during his junior season. Speedy, but powerful, Samuel benches more than 200 pounds and reportedly runs a sub-4.5 40-yard dash. He got early attention as a sophomore when he racked up more than 50 tackles and had 66 last season. He may be a combo in high school, but he is likely a linebacker prospect in college.
“He is very focused,” Casko said of his star player. “He knows that his grades are very important and is not going to let anything get in the way of those. He is a well-disciplined kid. He has got so many positive attributes. Georgia will never have problems with Richard.”
Samuel is Georgia’s sixth commitment for 2008. He joins Cornelius Washington, A.J. Green, Dwayne Allen, Martin Ward, and Coffee County’s B.J. Brand.
“Richard is a hard worker and only knows one speed," the Cass coach said. Cass was eliminated in the first round of the AAA playoffs by North Hall 17-14 in overtime.
