Chick-fil-A Bowl: Dec. 19 Practice Report

Posted Dec 19, 2006

ATHENS - The Georgia football team held its sixth and seventh post-season practices on Tuesday in preparation for the Chick-fil-A Bowl against #14 Virginia Tech on Dec. 30 in Atlanta.

In both the morning and evening workouts, the Bulldogs practiced in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts.

"We had a good day today," said head coach Mark Richt. "Both sessions were lively. I think the weather has a lot to do with that. Everyone's enjoyed it. The scout team seems to be doing a nice job and giving us a good look. Ben Boyd had an interception for a touchdown today."

Early in the day, Richt announced that quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo will assume the duties of offensive coordinator when Neil Callaway leaves the Bulldogs to become the head coach at UAB. Bobo will call Georgia's offensive plays in the Chick-fil-A bowl and will continue that job next season.

"I've known for awhile he'd be an outstanding coordinator," Richt said. "He can see the big picture. He understands the running game, the passing game, defenses and he's a fierce competitor. He's kind of old school in that he's a pretty demanding guy. He has all the tools. I'll be around to help him if he needs it, but I want him to have the chance to spread his wings and see what he can do."
