2008's Allen commits to Georgia

Dwayne Allen

ATHENS – Georgia added another 2008 commitment on Wednesday.

North Carolina junior tight end Dwayne Allen has committed to Georgia. He ended his recruiting before the basketball season because he wants to concentrate on playing on the hardwood this winter.

"Dwayne is not one of these guys that needs the spotlight of recruiting," said Terry Sanford head coach Wayne Inman. "He is wholeheartedly committed to Georgia."

Allen picked Georgia over N.C. State, North Carolina and Wake Forest. Allen had 25 catches for 551 yards and one touchdown. He averaged 22.0 yards per catch.

"He knew where he wanted to go, so he just went ahead and did it," Inman continued. "He's been to Athens for a couple of games, and he really likes the coaches a lot. He enjoys being around Coach Bobo and Coach Johnson."

Although some have categorized Allen as a defensive end, his head coach disagrees.

"Anyone that takes a look at his body understands that he is a tight end all the way," he said.
