Some Things You May Not Know
By

Now that the regular season is "over" I have to re-think how I am going to do these Sunday articles. I won't use the running backs and pass distribution until after the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. I will use some football stats that I haven't used and some other Georgia sports. Hopefully these stats are some things you might not know.
Matthew Stafford
had an interesting freshman season. Here are the top 5 passing seasons in terms of passing yards by a
Georgia
freshman...
David Greene
(2001) 2,789 yards
Quincy Carter (1998) 2,484 yards
Eric Zeier (1991) 1,984 yards
Matthew Stafford (2006) 1,620 yards
Preston Jones (1989) 568 yards
Greg Talley (1988) 469 yards
-----------------------------------------
Tra Battle
leads Georgia this year with 6 interceptions and
Tony Taylor
is 2nd with 5. Last year we did not have a player with more than 4 and that was
Tim Jennings
.
The last time Georgia had 2 players with 5 or more interceptions in the same season was back in 1999. That season
Jamie Henderson
and Cory Robinson each had 5.
-----------------------------------------
In the last 14 seasons where the Peach / Chick-Fil-A Bowl has been a SEC vs ACC matchup. The ACC has a 8-6 series lead. But if the current trend continues it will be good for the Dawgs and the next 3 SEC teams.
As you see, ACC teams won the first 4 games in the series, followed by the SEC winning the next 5, and then followed by ACC again winning the next 4. Last season
LSU
defeated
Miami
. So it looks like the SEC team will win the next 4.
-----------------------------------------
Dennis Felton's basketball team defeated
Wake Forest
87-86 on Saturday. They are now 3-2 all-time vs the Demon Deacons.
This is what the basketball team is all-time against ACC teams...
vs
Boston College
(BC leads 0-1)
vs
Clemson
(UGA leads 55-23)
vs
Duke
(never faced)
vs
Florida State
(FSU leads 10-19)
vs
Georgia Tech
(GT leads 99-83)
vs
Maryland
(UGA leads 5-2)
vs Miami (UGA leads 2-1)
vs
North Carolina
(UNC leads 5-13)
vs NC State (UGA leads 10-9)
vs
Virginia
(UGA leads 5-1)
vs
Virginia Tech
(UGA leads 4-1)
vs Wake Forest (see above)
So Georgia leads series vs ACC teams in 7 of the 12 teams, ACC teams lead 4, and a draw in one... ACC? Basketball Conference?
In women's basketball, Duke is the only ACC team that has a winning record against the Lady Bulldogs.
----------------------------------------
In Sunday's win over Georgia Tech, Janese Hardrick became the 28th Lady Bulldog to score 1,000 career points.
The men's basketball team has 36 players in their history with 1,000 career points.
Levi Stukes
reached that milestone earlier this season in a game against
Western Kentucky
.
