ATHENS - Josh Kendall's three keys to Georgia's game with Georgia Tech.

Handle the blitz

This falls on more than just the offensive line. Georgia’s running backs, who have been very inconsistent in their blocking, will have to shoulder a lot of the responsibility as well. The Yellow Jackets bring pressure more than most opponents and bring it from a wide variety of spots on the field.

Win turnover battle

Georgia took away more than it gave away against Auburn and won. Stafford needs to be just as aware of not throwing interceptions as he was two weeks ago, plus a little more careful of how he carries the ball when he runs. On the other side, Tech quarterback Reggie Ball will put the ball up for grabs at times trying to make a play. Georgia must take advantage.

Catch passes

The Bulldogs saw how their offense suddenly opened up after A.J. Bryant caught a 53-yard pass on the first drive against Auburn two weeks ago. They need more big plays like that to keep the momentum rolling.

One to watch

Sophomore wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi came into the season with big expectations but has yet to be a difference-maker. He had two spectacular catches in a three-catch day against Tennessee that was in vain, but he has yet to have a special day. His four-catch, 59-yard effort against Vanderbilt marks his season high in both categories. He’ll get chances to make big plays today against the Yellow Jackets’ aggressive defense, and he needs to capitalize to help Georgia’s offense go and boost himself into the 2007 season.

Forecast

The Yellow Jackets are fighting not just a rejuvenated Georgia team but history as well. The Bulldogs have won five straight in this rivalry, a number that can start to get into an opponent’s head. “Coaches don’t want to put too much credence in it, but streaks do happen,” said Richt, who’s on the winning end of one against Tech and the losing end against Florida.

“I’m sure psychology plays a part in it, it plays a part in every game. We’ve won some close ones against Tech and Florida has won some close ones against us. Why haven’t we gotten over the hump more consistently (against Florida)? I couldn’t tell you.” Tech’s Chan Gailey will be saying the same thing today if the Bulldogs get another consistent effort from their offensive line and quarterback Matthew Stafford.
