NOTES: Receiver Fred Gibson had his left hand wrapped and he was held out of contact drills in Tuesday’s scrimmage at Sanford Stadium. Gibson suffered a sprained wrist Monday afternoon when he became entangled with cornerback Bruce Thornton while trying to make a catch and then landed awkwardly on the hand. X-rays were negative and Richt termed the injury “not significant.’’
Quarterback David Greene was with the first-team offense through the first half of Tuesday’s scrimmage. Greene and D.J. Shockley split time with the first team in the second half. “They played good, but not great,’’ Richt said, noting “a couple of bone-headed decisions’’ spoiled the otherwise good efforts.
Freshman Bryan McClendon moved from cornerback to receiver Tuesday and now will compete with fellow freshmen Mario Raley and Cedric Haywood for playing time. Richt said as many as two freshman receivers may play this year.
Offensive guard Josh Brock returned from a back injury but suffered a sprained ankle.
