ATHENS - Dean Legge makes his weekly picks for the 23 schools in the South.

1. Clemson – The only team rolling right now, but Tech will be a test…

2. Tennessee – Third Saturday in October…

3. Arkansas – Is only a few wins away from returning to Atlanta…

4. Auburn – Still has weaknesses (like all SEC squads), but did what they need to against Florida

5. Florida – National title dreams are now done…

6. Georgia Tech – Can beat Clemson in Death Valley…

7. LSU – Should roll this week…

8. Virginia Tech – These guys are not what they used to be…

9. Miami – Apparently prize fighting is a scholarship sport in South Florida

10. Georgia – Hello Shreveport!

11. South Carolina – Nashville can be tricky, but Carolina should win …

12. Wake Forest – Need Clemson to lose, but control a lot of their own destiny…

13. Maryland – It now looks like these guys are always going to be mid-level ACC…

14 Alabama – Playing in Knoxville won’t be a lot of fun this weekend…

15. Florida State – Tough game this week…

16. Vanderbilt – First win on the road vs. a ranked opponent in seven decades. Now they must win again in seven days, which has never been easy for these guys…

17. Kentucky – Off week comes at a good time…

18. NC State – Flash in the pan…

19. Ole Miss – Can’t hang with the Hogs…

20. North Carolina – An actual winnable game this week…

21. Mississippi State – Hey, Vandy beat Georgia – why not us?

22. Duke – Hope a fight does not break out in the Duke-Miami game this week – Blue Devils can’t afford to suspend anyone…

23. Virginia – How is Al Groh still coaching?

This week’s games:

NOTE: these are last Sunday’s lines; some may have moved
North Carolina (+6) at Virginia
