Byrd's Eye View

CJ Byrd is playing more and more these days. Last season he played mostly on special teams, but this year he has played a lot on defense. Although it is his special teams play that a lot of the Georgia fans remember as he scooped up a blocked punt and returned it for a touchdown. This week I talked to backup free safety about this season.
Dave McMahon
-- Was the last game vs
Vanderbilt
the most game time you have been in since coming to
Georgia
?
CJ Byrd
-- No. I probably played more against Western Kentucky, but this is the most vs a D-I opponent.
DM
-- What have improved on the most from last year to this year?
CJB
-- My pass covering skills are better, but I still want to do even better.
DM
-- Are you comfortable playing either safety position?
CJB
-- I am comfortable at both.
DM
-- Why has the defense struggled so much lately after being so dominant early on?
CJB
-- It is a little bit of everything.
DM
-- Who have been some of the leaders on defense speaking up?
CJB
-- Quentin is doing it, and Tony and Tra. We all have to do it.
DM
-- Last game
Tony Taylor
returned an interception for a touchdown and earlier this season you had a special teams touchdown... how extra special is it for defensive players to get scores?
CJB
-- We all celebrate. It may be a once in a career happening for a defensive guy.
DM
-- Do you remember your last touchdown?
CJB
-- No... it was back during my senior year in high school.
DM
--
Jamar Chaney
plays for
Mississippi State
, but he was part of your recruiting class at Georgia... what do you remember about him?
CJB
-- I don't think I got to talk to him.
DM
-- What do you remember about playing Mississippi State last year?
CJB
-- Playing against
Jerious Norwood
. He was really good and now he is with the Falcons. We had to stop the run that night. We have to stop the run this game, too.
DM
-- Thank you for your time and answers.
